Lutherans teach the priesthood of all the baptized, meaning that all who are baptized into Christ and receive the Holy Spirit are gifted by the Spirit and called to use those gifts for the sake of the Gospel and the good of the world. Each of us does so in a number of ways – through our daily vocation and in service to the Church of Christ.

In 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Paul writes: 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Following the leading of God’s Spirit each member of the congregation is encouraged to use their various gifts to advance the mission of the Church. Many choose to do so by serving on the various committees and ministries that happen as God moves in, through and around us every day.
