Lutheran Disaster Response and Long Term Recovery

As this is written, it’s been 17 months since Superstorm Sandy ravaged the Jersey Shore and surrounding communities. Much has been done and much still needs to be done.  We here at Reformation have teamed with Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) and the Monmouth County Long Term Recovery Group (MCLTRG.org) to become a Long Term Recovery Site.  We are housing volunteers that are coming in from around the country to help rebuild the Jersey Shore one house at a time.  We began volunteering immediately after the storm and when approached by LDR we agreed to continue to serve our surrounding communities for the long term.  We house up to 20 volunteers at a time providing a place to sleep, shower, and three meals a day for a small stipend to help cover expenses.  While this is a ministry of our congregation, it is also a ministry of our community.  We welcome volunteers to help us with this very important ministry.
